The
South-West office of the President Muhammadu Buhari 2019 Campaign Organisation
was inaugurated on Monday by supporters of the president in the South-West and
other geopolitical zones.
The group appointed coordinators for the six states in the zone at the
event.
The gathering had in attendance Nigeria’s
former ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Bawa Abdulahi, who is also a member of the
organisation’s Board of Trustees, Isaka Hassan, the group’s acting Deputy
National Coordinator, Daniel Omofeso, the acting National Secretary, and
Deaconess Rita Solari Inko-Tariah.
Danladi Pasalli who is the National
Coordinator of the organisation, praised the South-West for always playing a
prominent role in the politics of the country, saying it was one of the major
forces behind the success of President Buhari in the last presidential
election.
He said, “We all know that the birthplace of
this organisation is here in the South-West, it was nursed and brought up here.
The South-West have always supported the President whose pious concern is to
reshape Nigeria and free it from all forms of unpatriotic activities. Buhari is
concerned with putting the country in a proper and realistic system so that the
future of the next generation is guaranteed.”
Pasalli noted that with Buhari’s tremendous
recovery in London, he would soon return to the country.
He said that the organisation would deploy
attractive strategies such as assisting farmers to get direct loans from the
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in order to build a strong support base.
The patron of the organisation in the zone,
Ahmed Ajibade, promised that even if Buhari was not strong enough to withstand
campaign stress, the group would work to ensure his victory in the 2019
presidential election.
“We will not allow those who will suffer
Nigerians to get to the throne, the masses will not allow them. Everybody must
rise in support of the President in his effort to transform Nigeria into a
country of our dream. Buhari stands for honesty, simplicity and he is a
straightforward person. He is the only one that is capable of transforming the
country at this crucial time,” he said.
Serious questions have been raised over the
capacity of the president to continue in office both in the short and
long-term, due to his prolonged battle with ill health.
The president’s repeated and now-stretched
medical vacation in London has remained a sore point among Nigerians, with some
calling for his resignation.
Doubts remain as to whether or not a Buhari,
who would be 76 in 2019, would be in great shape to run for a second term.
