| Delta State Governor, Sen. A. Ifeanyi Okowa |
Ahead of tomorrow’s Special Non-Elective National
Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the chairman of the planning
committee and Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, says the party was set to
welcome high receptive to defectors.
The
governor, who spoke yesterday during the inspection of the Eagles Square venue
of the event in Abuja, assured that everything needed for its success had been
perfected.
He
said: “We just came to see what is on ground. I believe that our people will be
safe because we have everything under control. We are not expecting any hitches
at all.
“We
are doing very well as a party and as a committee, in this kind of planning,
you will have some challenges here and there but there are solutions being
proffered and we are confident that it shall be well on Saturday (tomorrow).”
He
assured the faithful that eminent Nigerians were on the way to join the party
in the next three weeks. He continued: “This is a new PDP and with the
excitement we saw after the Supreme Court victory, it is clear that prominent
Nigerians are surprised that the party did not explode due to its long
leadership, and as such, ready to join forces to better the lives of
Nigerians.
“Many
of our members that left earlier due to one form of disagreement or the other
will return because the National Caretaker Committee has constituted
reconciliation and contact as well as mobilisation committees to reach out to
the defectors. “From the way things are going presently in this country, I
believe Nigerians will realise that the PDP is the only alternative that could
salvage the country,” Okowa added.
